Family and technology, trainers of society
For Diego LLopis
If we look back on
what the families of before and now were like, we will clearly find routines of
the day that today would seem very difficult for us to accept in today's
society. This does not mean that current times are better or worse, simply the
society is changing and evolving according to external factors that are capable
of permeating the family, for example, technology and process automation.
The technologies of
course generate progress and evolution for the human being, we use it daily and
every day we are more demanding as consumers when looking for processes that
make things easier, but as in every order, the technology has points in favor
and against.
Let's think a little, every time we visit the
doctor he gives us a ballot with medicines so that our body is again in a state
of equilibrium, even so, considering that medicine evolves more and more in
favor of the well-being of the human being, all the remedies have an indication
in the interior that refers to the "undesired effects" alterations or
effects that one does not know that one can experience.
Well, now let's go
back to technology, that process that began in the middle of the 18th century
also entails a series of changes in society, the development of processes that
make life easier and also make us more comfortable, carries with it an
"unwanted effect" " in society. Currently in Chile there are
more mobile phones than people, there are more wireless connections than
conversations at the table, more hours on social networks than games with
children, more access to inappropriate content ages than distractions in a
place.
All these advances,
whether we want it or not, generate changes in societies, before women were
left in charge of the home and the care of children, men worked and put the
rules in the home, fortunately nowadays even conservative societies like
Chilena do not I would accept this type of machismo and the roles must
inevitably be equated.
Unfortunately changes also occur that also
make us an increasingly individualistic society, everything that surrounds us
can be found on the smartphone that have approximately 9 out of 10 people in
your pocket , device that by the way came to replace the pacifier of children
under 2 years, creating a very harmful habit for their young age, on the other
hand there is no longer the instance for casual conversation or that always
well received help to find an address.
The importance of
the family in society cannot be seen from the perspective of past generations,
at the time they thought they did things well, by the way, today many things of
that time does not fit with the evolution of thought. I think that each
generation has its time and space to develop its own conception of family, and
how it should be related to technology to create a society
As a
personal reflection I think we should not have a paternalistic view of how a
family should be, personally with my wife we transmit values and strengths
to our son so that tomorrow, whatever the pace of life or the social context,
he have the emotional and value tools to differentiate the good from the bad
